A. GENERAL
1. MEMBERSHIP CARDS AND PERMITS
All anglers must be in possession of a current UTFA membership card or temporary membership permit when fishing. These must be produced at the request of a bailiff or any member who produces his membership card. If these documents are not produced, the angler will be asked to cease fishing.
2. LICENCES
All anglers must be in possession of the appropriate Environment Agency or equivalent licence.
3. BYELAWS
It is the duty of all anglers to be aware of and conform to all Environment Agency byelaws.
4. SALE OF FISH
The sale of any fish caught on UTFA water is strictly forbidden.
5. NUMBER OF RODS
No fishing is permitted save with a single rod and line.
6. FISHING STANDS
No angler is allowed to fish a stand for more than half an hour at one time if any other angler wishes to fish it.
7. RESERVATION OF A STAND
A stand cannot be reserved by leaving a bag or rod there in the absence of the angler at any time.
8. GATES ETC
All anglers shall shut all gates, leave no litter and trespass as little as possible.
9. RETURNING AND KILLING FISH
All salmon parr, smolts and undersized fish must be returned to the water with the greatest possible care. Also, all brown trout, any sea trout caught by any method other than fly, and salmon caught before 16 June, must be released. All fish to be retained must be killed humanely immediately on capture. The fish so retained shall be displayed to any other member or to the Bailiff upon demand.
10. MOTOR VEHICLES ON RIVERBANK
The only members permitted access along the riverbank in their motor vehicles are the Bailiff at work and persons designated by the Committee.
11. SUSPENSION OF FISHING
The Committee shall have the power to suspend fishing at any time.
12. CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN
Full members and honorary members are entitled to take their children or grandchildren under the age of 16 to fish for trout, salmon and sea trout on UTFA water free of charge provided such juvenile is accompanied by the member and only one rod is mounted between them.
13. RETURNS
All members must submit a full return of salmon/sea trout catches and brown trout catches to the Hon Secretary by 31 October.
14. GUIDES
All professional accredited guides must either be members of the UTFA or have temporary membership (a permit) whenever taking paying clients on UTFA waters, even if not actually fishing (this is in addition to the client’s membership or permit). Guides wishing to guide on UTFA waters are required to register with the UTFA Hon Secretary to meet UTFA insurance conditions.
B. BROWN TROUT
1. FLY ONLY
Artificial fly only shall be used for brown trout fishing throughout the UTFA fishery.
2. HOURS OF FISHING
Brown trout fishing is permitted from sunrise to sunset in each day.
3. CATCH AND RELEASE
All brown trout shall be released as quickly and as carefully as possible on all of the UTFA fishery.
C. SEA TROUT
1. METHODS
The only permitted method of fishing is the artificial fly.
2. FISHING BELOW WEIRS
No fishing or casting is permitted within 15 metres downstream of any weir crest.
D. SALMON

2. BAG LIMIT
No more than one salmon per person may be killed in a season. Catch-and-release may be practiced when the limit hase been filled.
3. METHODS
i. After the first salmon has been killed, catch and release is permitted but the use of worm as bait is no longer permitted for the rest of the season.
ii. The first salmon that is caught on worm must be killed, after which catch and release is permitted but the use of worm as bait is no longer permitted for the rest of the season.
